Avast, it's the Picture Pirate.

You didn't think I was done with the Random photos did you? Continuing the post from yesterday is yet more random cars from random drives. Found dead or alive on, or near the road. Driving down the highway, James, myself, and others in the car, we often play the 'Mustang' game. Since there are so many Mustangs on the road, who ever calls them, gets a point! Pretty simple. A cheap domestic RWD always sells well. I'm not sure why GM, Ford, and Chrysler never made a bargain barrel RWD like the Chevette ever again? Hell, the Cavalier sold very well, as did the Neon and the Focus. Japan is very much the same, except, S13's all over the place. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Silvia! +1 point."]Silvia! +1 point.[/caption] There is very little rust in Japan. Even the cars sitting and rotting seem to be in decent shape. A few little holes at best, mostly just surface rust. You'll often see nice classics driving down the street. Similar to seeing an old GTO pass you on the highway. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="A common sight, tire shop with a wide selection of cars."]A common sight, tire shop with a wide selection of cars.[/caption] This next photo has a bunch of mystery to it. I wasn't going to upload it, but I felt it was worth sharing. Japan has a few different license plates, Yellow is for kei-cars, white for regular traffic. There are some green ones? Then there are some that have light up numbers! We were cruising with Alexi to Nikko for the RB meeting, and passed two cars on the highway. They were very VIP style, but with the windows blacked almost completely out. The license plates you ask? LCD screens, that couldn't be viewed unless directly facing them, which I assume you could turn off easily. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Road Pirates?"]Road Pirates?[/caption] Rally enthusiasts in Canada are strange and few. They usually drive what ever they can get their hands on for cheap, and mod it to keep it from hitting trees. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Japan does rally enthusiasm a bit differently."]Japan does rally enthusiasm a bit differently.[/caption] I know you've all been waiting for this. Yes there are 'Ricers', though the word seems more offensive now that I think about it. Bosozoku is not 'rice', as much as it qualifies, it's often making light of certain modifications. Rice is the simple definition of pretending your car is something it's not, without knowing that the modifications made haven't improved the performance or function. In Bosozoku the modifications are done purposely with the knowledge that it is mimicking race cars. It's much like the Peacocks of ricers, so over the top silly, it's an art and style all it's own. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="GTR 4 bolt Type R integra. Posing hard. "]GTR 4 bolt Type R integra. Posing hard. [/caption] There's a weird feeling when driving around in a RHD country. Right turns suddenly become Left turns, and the world is topsy turvy. You often find your self looking at the passenger in a passing car and judging their driving by the way they look....Wait, there not driving! [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="OMG what are you doing!?!?!?"]OMG what are you doing!?!?!?[/caption] Vanning culture is something that died in the 70's, what also died in the 70's was the cool domestic vans! American companies are just plain dumb, if the purpose of a van changes, then they discontinue marketing the old styles to the public. The Mini-van killed the vanning flavor, leaving soccer mom's are a new term in our dictionaries. Only recently with the xB, and now hopefully, the Kia Soul, has vanning truly returned? [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="So many kei-vans with mods!"]So many kei-vans with mods![/caption] Let's say I buy a rare Audi. I need to drive or tow the car all the way to Toronto to get it fixed. It's rare, and uncommon here since it's perhaps a really obscure Audi model, so I have to find some rare and obscure Audi mechanic right? [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Where do you get parts for this thing?"]Where do you get parts for this thing?[/caption] I remember in the mid 90's when clear taillights were badass. You'd buy the new housings, and then little red sleeves to slip over the bulbs to make them slightly glow red. Those taillights were really at the wrong time in the customization time line. Not many years after their popularity wavered, that LED taillight replacements became common and affordable. I think the completely clear lenses would've stayed cool longer had they actually retained their function of telling the person behind you that you were stopping..... [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Old skoolin'"]Old skoolin[/caption] High Roads, or Low roads? Low roads are much more fun, but you have to try a few high roads. Especially if you want to go see Daikoku Futo! They can get very expensive at times though which is probably a great way to controlling traffic flow. You REALLY need to get somewhere fast? Pay the $4.00. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="ETC, ballin' daily. "]ETC, ballin daily. [/caption] Oh hey a cop car! Hmmm, well, no ones speeding, or doing anything wrong. He must be bored. Oh hey a cop car! Hmmm, well, no ones speeding, or doing anything wrong. He must be bored. Oh hey a cop car! Hmmm, well, no ones speeding, or doing anything wrong. He must be bored. Oh hey a cop car! Hmmm, well, no ones speeding, or doing anything wrong. He must be bored. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Directions, all that cops do. "]Directions, all that cops do. [/caption] Ack, so much talk about front drive vehicles. I'm not a Mitusbishi fan myself, owning one hasn't really changed anything either. Their introduction to the NADM market was about as good as Renaults, and the models they currently offer today to the NADM market is about as good as Renaults. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="FTO, gangstar."]FTO, gangstar.[/caption] Autumn and Spring colors were great ways to tell who the stores were aimed at. Autumn being a Brown and Yellow, Spring being Yellow and Green. Fairly simple to understand visually, and was helpful for quick, accurate judgments. Approaching cars also showed these colors to you. Rather than getting up near a car, having a possible awkwardness with the driver, then finding out they are very young or old, you knew well before the car was even close to you, from the front and the back, and adjusted your driving accordingly. No surprises. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="A young driver, I wonder where his interests lie?"]A young driver, I wonder where his interests lie?[/caption] OH NO A MINOR FENDER BENDER!?!?!?! SOMETHING TO DO! [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Funeral for Paint. "]Funeral for Paint. [/caption] The Palace grounds are impressive. So beautiful and well taken care of. You can really see the detail in thought when it was built so long ago. A mote followed by a hard to scale wall, large open areas outside of this so no one could hide, and beautiful scenery through out the inner grounds to keep those trapped inside, somewhat sane. It's also beautiful when you catch people washing their cars across the street... [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Pretty, Shame we couldn't get the shot just right. :("]Pretty, Shame we couldnt get the shot just right. :([/caption] Harajuku Station has a neat 3 legged walking bridge above a complex corner. This helps pedestrians and traffic keep things smoothly operating. Separate paths results in no incidents, as well as a great viewing deck. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="I'm sure those decals are just for show. "]Im sure those decals are just for show. [/caption] I hate bodykits on trucks, they just look dumb. However, I give more praise to the Japanese, their artistry and need to cause general appeal is often overwhelming. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Heavy Wallets!"]Heavy Wallets![/caption] Money is money no matter where you come from. Those who have it, wish to flaunt it. Having money is a lifestyle in it's own right. It's often not about having interests and money to pay for them, but rather having money is in the interests. When it comes to spending it, you often seem uninteresting. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Bleh, nothing special."]Bleh, nothing special.[/caption] I love Group B. Group B resulted in a whole shift in automobiles in the 80's. It changed the way people looked at cars, and the way manufacturers sold them. There was many great vehicles that came to fruition because of this extreme rally group, and at least from it's ashes, WRC was born. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="4WD Turbo Charged low slung weight. Erection."]4WD Turbo Charged low slung weight. Erection.[/caption] People will stand in front of their shops, yelling about specials and deals. Handing out pamphlets and showing off specific products. they want your attention, they want your sales! Some people are a bit more shy, so they just try to catch your interest. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="HEY! Our Shop, it's open!"]HEY! Our Shop, its open![/caption] #1, old kei cars rocks, #2, old kei cars that were used for racing? [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Come buy our shit! We've been around forever!"]Come buy our shit! Weve been around forever![/caption] Daihatsu had a little bit of everything for everyone, but I guess that's just the way to sell cars in Japan. This is the first time I've ever seen a car marketed to Nudists. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="Naked, that's right. "]Naked, thats right. [/caption] Parking lots are a fun place to hunt for cars, the cooler the shop is, the more interesting the car. The trick to shooting the cars in the lot, is to be friendly, sneaky, and very apologetic. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="I'm sorry, I will ask next time. "]Im sorry, I will ask next time. [/caption] MORE VANS [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="600" caption="More Vans!"]More Vans![/caption]
